Deerfield Beach, Fla. – Broward Health North (BHN) hosted its fifth annual Spike Out Stroke Day on May 20 including a walk-through, inflatable brain exhibit.

Spike Out Stroke Day was created to celebrate the great strides healthcare is making in detection and awareness of stroke causes and indicators.

“This year’s Spike Out Stroke Day was a great success,” said Nora Uhrig, director of the BHN Neurological Institute. “We offered a fun and thoroughly interactive way to learn about stroke and brain health and, from the feedback we have been receiving from the community, it went very well.”

More than 250 community members attended the event and more than 180 free screenings, including blood pressure checks, cholesterol/blood sugar screenings and carotid artery screenings, were provided.

The large inflatable brain was in the BHN lobby all day and served to give a better understanding of the brain and risk for strokes and other neurological problems.
